Overview
OVHcloud is one of Europe's largest cloud infrastructure providers, founded in 1999 by Octave Klaba in Roubaix, France. What started as a small hosting company has grown into a global cloud player operating over 40 data centers across Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific. OVHcloud went public on Euronext Paris in 2021, reinforcing its position as a flagship European cloud company and a credible sovereign alternative to US hyperscalers.
The platform offers a comprehensive suite of cloud services including public cloud (based on OpenStack), dedicated servers, managed Kubernetes, private cloud (based on VMware), hosted private cloud, web hosting, domain registration, object storage, managed databases, AI training and inference platforms, and a bare metal cloud. OVHcloud is known for its competitive pricing, particularly on dedicated servers and bandwidth, and its proprietary water-cooling technology that significantly reduces energy consumption in its data centers.
As a French company subject to EU law, OVHcloud has positioned itself as a champion of European digital sovereignty. The company is a founding member and active participant in Gaia-X, the European cloud federation initiative. OVHcloud guarantees that customer data stored in EU data centers remains subject exclusively to European jurisdiction, free from extraterritorial legislation such as the US CLOUD Act. This makes OVHcloud a strategic choice for European governments, healthcare providers, and enterprises with strict data residency requirements.
